I am a Peterborough based artist and grew up in and around Cambridgeshire.
I love painting big skies, trees, seaside scenes and I’m inspired to paint by the places I’ve been and the people I meet.
I use watercolours in non-traditional ways (never have liked colouring in the lines!) I usually paint on large canvases which is unusual for watercolours, and then mix this with brightly coloured inks, and metalic fabric paints. I use black inks and pens to draw over my paintings giving them a sketchy informal look and lots of movement and life.
One of the best thing anyone has ever said about my work is ‘the more I look the more I see!”
This year my artwork has lots of balloon inspiration – hot air balloons appear over the skies of Stamford, London, Kolkata and Mumbai. I think they symbolise hope and the unexpected – joy and fun. Even in the midst of a leprosy hospital (you can find out more about that if you visit).
I enjoy creating mini films and hoping these will be on display during PAOS too. Here’s a link to my youtube channel: Lizzy Standbrook Art on YouTube
Weather permitting there will be a garden-based art installation on 1st – 2nd July as part of PAOS … and that too might involve balloons!
Commissions are available, refreshments and fire pit into the evening and cards, prints and original artwork for sale.
