As visual artists we create based on our perception and observation of what we see and what we want our viewers to see. 2020 being the visual measurement of normal sharpness, we create what we feel… but whatever our creative visions, we don’t always see creativity in a straight line.

We create from our hearts with passion and have been exhibiting our work together with Peterborough Artists Open Studios for a number of years. Over the years we have also exhibited with other groups but this is the first time we are exhibiting as a group together outside of PAOS.

It’s been four years on the waiting list for this venue, so we hope you will join us on this adventure at the Stamford Arts Centre.

These drawings were first shown at the Norman Cross Gallery in September and October 2018 and features a collection of works, of some of the Heritage sites and buildings in Peterborough. With a focus on the Norman Cross site the first prisoner of war camp during the Napoleonic War, to the Gates Memorial in Bishop's Road Gardens. There are a lot of places in our city that not only means a lot to our community but also means a lot to many individuals. We take a lot of these places for granted but there are so much to see and learn all around us.

Process piece of The Guild Hall, Cathedral Square.

It’s always refreshing as an artist, going back to your roots of drawing as a medium, but as well as being exciting to produce these pieces, it’s also been a challenge trying hard not to use paint or colour. The body of work was produced in pencils, charcoal and pastels but some of the pieces I felt lend itself to a dash of colour. This was achieved by using pastel and slightly coloured paper. Amazing what you learn also when observing these buildings and sites.

Tony enjoying a moment at his exhibition.

Those of you who know Tony's work will know that he works in a variety of mediums and my work is always vibrant. While working on these pieces he was often tempted to paint some of the pieces but held back. It’s very strange and also a nice change not doing any painting for so many months.

Paul and Alison Saunders are frequent visitors to the Museum Caffe.

Tony says, this exhibition only consists of 10 pieces, whereas the original exhibition had 14 pieces. I would like to add this is not the end of this project. More work is being added to the collection and continues into the months ahead, with views of developing the project.

All works on display are for sale and you can also order prints from the Museum, greeting cards are also available.

About :

Prue Pye - seeks to capture the multi faceted layers and colour that exists within us all. It is a search for an essential humanness, and therefore faces are not recorded, but hinted at; a sense of universality and truth.

Kathryn Parsons - Using hand modelled porcelain and found treasures, Kathryn creates intricate miniature sculptures.  Through them she weaves together tales of people, places and the small details of the natural world.

Eve Marshall - Is inspired by the countryside she lives in and her wacky brain. She creates detailed images with wet and needle felting techniques. Eve loves using bold colours a lot of texture which allows you to get lost in her art.

Charron Pugsley-Hill - creates large colourful paintings and installations inspired by nature and flowers. Created intuitively, in the moment each piece aims to bring colour and happiness to tell stories about the world in which we live.

“This is Me”- My first solo exhibition at the Norman Cross Gallery has been in the planning for some time, but it’s always amazing how the time suddenly sneaks up on you. This exhibition of paintings and drawings focuses on portraits of some of the Iconic legends in the world of Politics, Sport, Music and Film.

There’s a nice mixture here, a few old pieces which shows part of the journey my work has taken and new works of Angelina Jolie, Will.I.Am, Norma Jean (Marilyn Munro), Robin Williams and the Great Rock Legend Jimmy Hendrix to name but a few.

Still playing with the concept ‘Absence of Presence’, where we are able so see something that‘s no longer there, or visualise what used to be. Obscuring the image creates a sense of excitment in the work and encourages engagement with the viewer.

The title ‘This Is Me’, lends itself to where I am right now with my work. As a style, it’s been a work in progress for a number of years and i’m happy with how it’s developed to this point. As artists, to develop and grow we sometimes move in different directions, at times we even revisit our old styles.

Visit my exhibition and share in a part of my creative world.
