Visit artist's studios and venues in Peterborough and the surrounding areas

About Us

Peterborough Artists Open Studios has grown from very small beginnings in 2000, with just two artists opening their workspace. We are now a membership run organisation with over 100 talented creative artists and craftspeople displaying a wide variety of disciplines.

You can find us not only in the city of Peterborough but also in many of the surrounding villages and towns in the PE postcode area to such an extent that the three weekends may be more accurately described as a studio and venue art trail.

To get round all the venues in three weekends would take a degree of stamina. Many artists take the brave step to let the public into their workspaces, other artists band together and put on an exhibition, often in spaces that add to the aesthetic of their work. Popular mediums are still plentiful such as painting, drawing, ceramics and mosaic-making . Recent years has seen the inclusion in newer and more radical art forms from digital imaging to street art to public installations and larger scale sculptural metalwork.

Look around Peterborough, walk in its parks and community spaces and you might come across commissioned work by PAOS artists. While there is a Peterborough and PE postcode focus for PAOS,  artists on the PAOS listings exhibit further afield, have work regularly commissioned from them and some have been widely published over the years.

If visiting the studios to buy art is not for you, you can visit on the PAOS weekends to meet the artists, find out what it is like as a way of life and discover how artists go about advertising and selling their work. Many artists offer tuition, some listed on this website run classes or teach art professionally.

We publish a participating artists’ directory every year in advance of the Open Studios event which is available to download from this website or pick up from a number of locations in the area. Download a copy of the PAOS 2022 Brochure

You can follow us on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram

For Visitors

You will get a warm welcome at all of our venues, many of which are the artists’ own homes and gardens. In some you will be able to look around the gardens and/or enjoy refreshments. Check the artist pages or directory for more details.  We also recommend you check the artist’s profile on this website before you set off just in case there’s been any unforeseen changes.

You will be able to talk to the artists about their work and techniques and in some venues you will even be able to see demonstrations. There will be work for sale wherever you go, entry is free and there will never be any obligation to buy.

For Artists

We welcome new artists or crafts people and by joining PAOS you will be able to participate in the Open Studios’ event, feature in the brochure and have your own page on this website.  Any artist living in the PE postcode area is welcome to apply for membership and take part in the Open Studio event days. As a new member you have the same listing alongside the most experienced.

Your webpage on PAOS.org.uk is highly customisable and can be linked to and from other websites, you can keep updating the page throughout the year and share your page and latest work and exhibitions to social media. There is an ongoing schedule of free to attend workshops to help you learn how to edit and increase your web-footprint.

Usually other exhibition opportunities arise during the membership year which you can join in with if you wish as a PAOS member.
