I'm Rose.  I am an Artist and Maker

Through varied work, I playfully explore and study the theory of colour and try to capture the simplicity of our love for the world we live in.
The Art I create aims to satisfy the simple human part of us that takes pleasure in small perfections like a beautiful Fallen leaf or a perfectly round stone.
I enjoy working with a number of different mediums, currently I most often with Acrylic Paint and Oil Pastels

I am currently also selling some of my art as NFTs on Rarible.

I am interested in developing more large scale colourful art installations using various mixed media in the new year.

I run workshops and host events. I'm looking forward to being able to do this at Unique Cottage Studio this year.

I teach Forest School in a couple of Primary Schools in Peterborough, as well as teaching a regular Adult LD Art class.  In my spare time, when I'm not in my Studio in Spalding, you'll find me telling stories or body painting at Festivals across the country, or walking my dog down the River.

My artwork brings out both the beauty of nature and the individual character of each creature it hosts. Just as we humans are unique so are the animals I paint.

Fabric forms the base of much of my work along with stitch and embellishments to create art works based on nature.  My work is continually evolving and changing and now experimenting with goldwork embroidery. I also manipulate fabric and stitch to create wearable art, continually developing processes for unique items.
These small items are made from Shibori pleated silk ribbon attached to small pieces of slate collected whilst on holiday.  The silk is embellished with hand beaded detail using natural gem stones and glass beading.  The are small pendants or brooches.

About Kathryn...
I am a visual story teller and mixed media artist.  I create intricate hand-modelled sculptures that weave together tales of people, places and the natural world.

It is the small details of nature that inspire me. Whether I’m looking at a fragment of lichen-encrusted bark or through a lens at a piece of coral, natural structures, textures and forms delight me.

As I explore these treasures, and delve into the history of the places in which they are found, I find myself wanting to share their stories. Through sculpture I select and combine the elements that most fascinate me. Sometimes new species emerge… new wonders of the natural world that have been waiting to be discovered.

The materials I choose to use depends on the story to be told; from porcelain plants and ephemeral chlorophyll photographs to wildflower-shoes made of sugar. Hand modelled porcelain is currently at the heart of my practice, often combined with found natural and vintage objects. Porcelain’s preciousness, fragility and strength say something of how I perceive the natural world, and I enjoy the challenges of modelling this demanding clay using simple tools. Whatever the material, each sculpture is created by hand, each one is unique, each one is a treasure.
