Dive into learning art this summer at Peterborough Museum. A series of Saturday art classes are on offer for people wishing to try something new or spend a day developing their favourite mediums.

Watercolour techniques and textures – David Swinton (For beginners & improvers). Aug 17, 10am – 3pm. Professional artist from Whittlesey, David Swinton, will lead this class where pupils will be working on heavy-duty, NOT surface paper to learn a number of exciting watercolour techniques, such as wet-in-wet, graded wash, sponged foliage, wax resist and rigger trees. Watercolour is a beautiful medium and learning basic skills helps beginners to progress with this challenging and deeply rewarding art technique.

Figurative charcoal drawing – Jim Tovey. 24 Aug, 10am – 3pm. Join artist and life drawing tutor Jim Tovey and unleash your creativity with charcoal! Working with a model, students in this class will look at composition planning, outline mapping to tonal rendering and making the most of charcoals possibilities. Go light and fine or grab a large lump and get mark-making using this most versatile and primal of mediums.

Painting trees in watercolours – David Swinton (For beginners & improvers). Aug 31, 10am – 3pm. Lino-printing – Syrah Arnold. 7 Sep, 10am – 3pm. Join artist Syrah Arnold in a lino-printing session, creating prints using Peterborough as inspiration. participants are invited to bring a simple image (of anything from Peterborough) to work from, though some images will also be on hand.
