As a craft addict I love working in lots of different mediums and am always looking to learn more skills. I discovered Fused Glass a couple of years ago and was hooked. I enjoy all aspects of working with glass from the creative side where I can indulge myself in the huge variety of colours and textures available through to the more scientific side of the actual fusing. It has been a massive learning curve, frustrating at times but totally worthwhile.

The Place Stamford is a gift shop that supports local artists. During the open weekends I will be available to chat about Fused Glass and talk about the different techniques.

Welcome to Handmade by Joolz! I'm Julia, and I'm all about crafting stained glass pieces that will steal your heart.

My creations are more than just decorations - they're a fusion of my love for stained glass and textiles that radiate warmth and comfort in your home.

Working with glass is my happy place, and I'm always exploring new techniques to add a unique touch to my work. I enjoy experimenting with found objects and wire embellishments to create 3D pieces that push the boundaries of traditional stained glass.

If you're looking to learn the art of stained glass, I offer beginner's workshops that are perfect for groups of four. Book a session through my website https://bit.ly/3AdjqZY or get in touch to schedule a bespoke experience.

Come and see me in action at PAOS and discover the magic of stained glass. Let's create something beautiful together!

I took early retirement after 30+ years as a primary school teacher where one of my roles was invariably art co-ordinator - I have always had a bit of an arty streak!

I became interested in mosaics when my head teacher asked me to make one for the school with some lovely tiles which has been donated. Having only ever made mosaic patterns using paper squares in the classroom, the task of proper mosaicking was rather daunting. However after a lot of thought, problem solving and help from some children, a lovely mosaic was conceived and produced which still hangs outside the school. That was in 2006.

Since leaving teaching I still find the whole process of designing, sorting, gluing, grouting, cleaning and finishing a piece to be extremely therapeutic, rewarding and addictive. I now have my own "studio", attend regular craft fairs and take on big and small commissions.

My inspiration comes from where I am "at the moment". My fish and all things seaside happened after a trip to Southwold. The birds and flowers came after a walk through local bluebell woods. I love scouting around charity shops and vintage markets - always on the lookout for that something special I can use! Quirky glass beads are a favourite find.

Glass is a medium that I find has a wide range of colours that can be combined together in many form.

I have continued to develop kiln carving as a interest, and from this added effects within the carved space.  A recently attended course has shown me other avenues to explore.

On the weekend in July I will be in residence at Denise Brown's studio (Grange Farm, Whittlesey, Benwick, Cambridgeshire PE15 OXU) demonstrating Raku with Christine Withall.

This year I hope to revisit some of my previous ideas that were put onto the back burner last year, plus I hope to explore a couple of newly emerging techniques. Colour remains a main influence to my pieces, with interlocking effects of different glass textures. Weather permitting pit firing and Raku demonstrations will take place using previously bisque fired pieces and will be available for sale if the kiln gods allow!! Also a re-wilded meadow trail at the front of the house where a path has been prepared to view the indigenous plants and insects. Refreshments and cakes will be available, ample free car parking at the venue.
